Botox is an FDA-approved product made from a bacteria (Clostridium Botulinium) that is injected in micro quantities into targeted muscles of the face.
When injected by an expert, Botox causes the facials muscles targeted to be unable to contract. The effects kick in fully after about 14 days and last for approximately three months.
Botox is a treatment that prevents fine lines from forming in the face. If you have already formed some soft static lines, it can reverse these and sometimes make them permanently disappear.
For those with deeply etched static lines, Botox can soften these and prevent them from getting deeper.
WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE MY BOTOX APPOINTMENT?
Prior to receiving any injections in your face, it is important to avoid certain things that could cause bruising or bleeding. At least seven days prior to your injections, please try to avoid any NSAIDs, including aspirin and ibuprofen. It is OK to take Tylenol if you have pain. Also, avoid vitamin E or fish oil supplements. It is also recommended to avoid alcohol at least 24 hours prior to your injections.
To help prevent bleeding or bruising, you can purchase Arnica tablets online or over the counter at a pharmacy. Taking Arnica tablets three times a day prior to your injections for approximately one week is recommended. It is also helpful to eat a serving of pineapple each day for seven days prior to your injections.
On the day of your procedure, you do not have to wear makeup to your appointment. If you do, we will remove it in the area that we are injecting to prevent infection. Immediately after your injections, we simply ask that you do not wear any makeup for 4 hours.
WHAT SHOULD I AVOID AFTER MY BOTOX TREATMENT?
After your treatment, it is important to avoid heavy exercise for the rest of the day. Any activities that cause you to sweat heavily and open your pores are also not recommended. So, no jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas, hot showers, or hot yoga for the rest of the day.
We also ask that you do not wear anything compressive on the areas treated such as a hat or headband for the rest of the day. In addition, do not rub or scrub the areas treated for the next few days. It is OK to gently wash your face, but no abrasive scrubs or treatments. Lastly, please do not wear makeup for 4 hours after treatment to minimize the risk of infection.
